Cars Go Green - Hybrid Cars Questions

Question: How would the energy industry be affected by increased use of hybrids?

( Back )

Answer #1:

The demand for alternative energies will cut into the traditional energies. It will be a gradual change because the bigger car companies will be reluctant to change becuasese they are greedy jerks.

Answer #2:

not much. Producing a hybrid requires a lot more energy than producing a regular car, so it will all balance out.

Answer #3:

The hybrid car like Toyota Prius will save the gas from 5l to2.5l or 50%. The development cost and price are still high so that the industry is reluctant to change. Compared to diesel engine which save from 3l to 2.5l or 16% is not much. Diesel engine or even using natural gas are more cheaper. That why hybrid is not the best choice so far. It has another problem about lithium battery. It will be harmful to the environment that noone is even talking about. Electric cars or fuel cell might be the best choice. Because it is cheaper both in terms of purchase price and maintenance.
